Wanted Woman Captured In Niagara Falls

NRPS Media Release

On Thursday January 10, 2008 at about 2:45am a gas station attendant in Niagara Falls, Ontario contacted police regarding a woman who had stopped at his station. He stated that her behaviour had concerned him. When the woman saw the attendant on the phone, she immediately fled in her vehicle. The attendant was able to get a license plate, a description and a direction of travel of the vehicle. He also advised police that there were also two young children in the vehicle.

Shortly after, police received notification of an “Amber Alert” issued by Hamburg, New York Police. The vehicle and occupants from the above incident matched the information from the “Amber Alert”. As a result police were able to direct their resources towards a specific area of the City of Niagara Falls.

At about 3:00am a patrolling police officer involved in the search spotted the vehicle on River Road. He was able to stop the vehicle without incident. The 36-year-old woman and her two young children were all safe and cooperated fully with police.

After conferring with Hamburg Police and Canada Border Service the woman and two children were turned over to Canada Border Service and then ultimately voluntarily removed herself and the children from Canada. They were then turned over to US Custom and Border Agency to await Hamburg Police.

The alert thinking of the gas station attendant cause the early detection of the female and her children, whereby they could be redirected to U.S. authorities who had issued the alert.
