This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Hampton Hotels. All opinions are 100% mine.
We will be announcing our Stupid Tourist Story Contest winners soon. There is some internal disagreements of which story is the best. If you did not get a chance to enter, don’t worry. Hampton Hotels has just announced the Hampton Chain of Friends Sweepstakes.
Imagine this… Win one weekend for you and 100 of your friend at a Hampton Hotel. That’s practically the entire hotel for you! The sweepstake is open to residents of the 50 US, DC, Canada (excluding Quebec), UK and Mexico. You don’t have to be Hilton Honors members or have previously stayed at a Hampton. Plus, there is no purchase necessary. Not enough? Well, Hampton Hotels will throw in $5,000 to cover the taxes for the weekend.
My hotel of choice would be the Niagara Falls Hampton Inn. We’d spend the day at the Niagara Falls Waterpark, and all of the Falls Avenue attractions such as Adventure City, the Hershey Chocolate shop, and Clifton Hill. At night we’d watch the Niagara Falls fireworks and spend the rest of the night at the Casino, which is conveniently located directly across the street from the hotel. If I win I’d definitely invite all my friends and a few readers who comment on this post (hint, hint). But if you win, please put me on your guest list?
This is actual audio of a Canadian couple being interrogated at the United States/Canada borer. The couple was on their way to Niagara Falls outlet mall. At the end of the audio the couple was arrested and thrown in jail.
Were the US border patrol just? What is your opinion?

Though a satellite’s view of a vertical feature on Earth may not be the most flattering angle, this image of Niagara Falls is impressive. The Niagara River drops nearly 170 feet to form one of the world’s largest waterfall, shown above in an image taken by GeoEye’s Ikonos satellite in August 2004. More than 1.7 million gallons of water runs over the edge every second, constantly eating away at the rock below and pushing it back as much as 20 feet in a year. more…

Sarah Takacs and her friend took a road trip from Ohio to Niagara Falls for Spring Break. This was the first time any of them saw Niagara Falls in the winter.
Sarah tells us, “At times, we could feel the mist, and, while standing on a bridge, we were amazed at how fast the water flowed over the rocks below us. The best part of the trip, in my opinion, was getting to see the Falls lit up in many different colors at night.”
This painting, based on a drawing Church made at Niagara in July 1856 and on a sepia photograph touched with colour, was commissioned by the New York art dealer Michael Knoedler in 1866. It may originally have been destined for the Universal Exhibition in Paris, as Church was selected to represent America there. It was bought in 1887 by John S. Kennedy who presented it to his native Scotland. It is the only major example of Church’s work in a European public collection. The painting is currently on display at the National Gallery of Scotland. more…
It’s hard to imagine Toronto’s new-ish “dine in the dark” trend taking off in Niagara Falls, but it was also hard to believe how much buzz there is about it already here in Niagara.
O. Noir opened last summer in the Centre of the Universe, following others in Montreal and New York and a growing trend of European restaurants that serve their guests in a pitch black room, according to the restaurant’s website. more…

Name: Jay Triano

Claim to Fame: head coach of the NBA’s Toronto Raptors
Born in Niagara Falls Ontario, Jay Triano became the first Canadian born and Canadian trained coach in the NBA when he served as an assistant coach to Lenny Wilkens during the 2002-03 season.
A native of Niagara Falls, Triano was the head coach of the Canadian men’s national team from 1998-2004 posting a 52-42 (.553) record. He led Canada to a semifinal berth in the 2003 FIBA Americas Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico and to a 5-2 record, second best to the United States, in the 2000 Olympics.
In addition to his duties with Canada Basketball, Triano worked six years as a radio analyst and director of community relations for the Vancouver Grizzlies. He moved to Toronto from Vancouver in 2001 to work as a basketball analyst for TSN.
In November 2009 the Rink at the Brink opened up in Niagara Falls Canada, in hopes of being a ‘must see’ winter attraction similar to the Rideau Canal in Ottawa and the Rockefeller Center in New York. The attraction became a little disappointing when we learned that due to the mist from the falls, it needed to be covered up by a white roof and enclosed in plexiglas.
Niagara Falls, New York, hopes that their idea is better. Construction of an ice rink DeVeaux Woods State Park, just a little further from the falls, just finished. Because the rink is far enough from the falls there is no need for a roof and enclosure. Hopefully skating at the rink becomes an annual tradition for residences and visitors to Niagara Falls.
I won’t argue that Cornwall has a magnificent water tower; that Beauceville has delicious poutine; and I’m sure Kenora (formally named Rat Portage) is actually very nice; but is it possible that these cities will be added to Monopoly Canadian Edition instead of Niagara Falls?
When we first posted about the vote, Niagara Falls moved to second place behind Banff, and was positioned to take one of the two available spots. There are only 22 days left to spread the word to all your friends to nominate Niagara Falls. Spread the word with Facebook and Twitter!
