Stephane Dion Visits the Niagara Wine Festival

From the St. Catharines Standard:

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion paid a whirlwind visit to Montebello Park shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday.

During his walkabout of about an hour, Dion met with Liberal supporters and chatted with bystanders and others staffing winery and food kiosks.

His St. Catharines visit followed the 57th annual Pen Centre Grande Parade, which was a longer affair this year and seemed slightly better attended.

In an interview with The Standard following his tour, Dion said his $1-billion Advanced Manufacturing Prosperity Fund is one way the Liberals will help the region’s battered manufacturing sector.

Among other things, Liberals say the previously-announced plan will stimulate private investment and help make Canada as a leader in the manufacture of greener technologies and products.

Dion also commented on the Niagara and Canadian “superpower’ wine industry.

About 25 years ago people were “laughing” at some of the wine produced here, he said.

“But it’s (now) a wonderful wine and it’s considered as such everywhere in the world.”

It is a sign of the times that “new world” wine is gaining the respect it deserves now and this is reflected in the Wine Investment market. Although Bordeaux still reigns supreme, Australia & North America are not far behind.
