On Sunday November 1st, 2007 the Tim Hortons at 8089 Portage Road in Niagara Falls had the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Donation box stolen.
While investigating this incident, the police received several more complaints regarding similar thefts of Poppy Donation boxes from retailers. In several of the incidents, the same female is captured by surveillance cameras committing the thefts. As a result of the surveillance footage and subsequent police investigation, Investigators were able to identify the female that was doing it.
On November 7th, police arrested and charged 31 year old Brooke Bowman of Niagara Falls with Three Counts of Theft Under $5000.00 and One Count of Breach of Probation Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Bowman was held in custody pending a Bail Hearing on Wednesday November 8th, 2007.
The money raised through the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign is used to provide direct assistance to Veterans in financial distress, as well as funding for medical appliances and research, home services, care facilities, and numerous other purposes.
