Meet Niagara Falls’ newest millionaire:
Here is the official press release from CNW:
Peter Young, 76, was at home on his computer when he decided to check his lottery ticket on the OLG website. “At first I thought I had made a mistake, when all of a sudden, it seemed like the numbers were jumping out at me! I had to check two or three more time before my eyes registered what I was seeing,” Young told OLG Prize Centre staff in Toronto when he collected his prize cheque worth $12.5 Million. Young is Ontario’s latest multi-millionaire, with his big prize won on the September 30, 2009 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“I don’t usually purchase a lot of lottery tickets however, because the jackpot was coming close to $13 Million, and I have always considered the number 13 to be my lucky number, I purchased $10 dollars worth of quick picks,” said Young. Ten dollars later, Young has become an overnight millionaire. He laughed when shared with the staff at the OLG Prize Centre that when he told his wife, she said “Get out of town”! Travelling will definitely be in their future plans.
Young is married to Gillian and the couple has three adult children. With his windfall, he plans to share with his family and travel to a warmer place for the time being. “I’ve already treated myself to a $25 dollar steak from the market,” said Young.
The winning ticket was a Quick-Pick purchased at Avondale Lundy’s Lane, in Niagara Falls. Ontario.
OLG is a provincial agency responsible for province-wide lottery games and gaming facilities. Since 1975, OLG lotteries, casinos, slots, and resort casinos have generated more than $23 billion for the benefit of the Province of Ontario. Gaming proceeds support Ontario’s hospitals, amateur sport, recreational and cultural activities, communities, provincial priority programs such as health care and education, and local and provincial charities and non-profit organizations through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
