Are your children biking to school? Do they need a reminder about the rules of road, or need their skills improved to ensure they are cycling safely?
On Sunday September 21st 2008, the Welland Community Policing Committee will be working in conjunction with the Niagara Region Public Health department and the Niagara Regional Police Service to offer a bike safety clinic and rodeo at Empire Elementary School, 20 Duncan St. in the City of Welland from 12:20 pm – 4:30 pm.
The bike rodeo is FREE, and open to all residents of the Niagara Region. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be available. The rodeo is open to children ages 3 – 14. Kids will be given bicycle safety instruction, have their bike maintained, and put through a rodeo circuit to test their skills. Parents are also encouraged to attend with their bicycles to have them tuned up and put in top working order.
ALL CHILDREN ATTENDING THIS EVENT MUST WEAR AN APPROVED BICYCLE HELMET.
Here’s a segment from Good Morning America about daredevils in Niagara.
Early Friday morning, it was discovered that there were numerous manhole covers missing from the Thorold and Niagara-On-The-Lake areas. On Saturday, this crime spree continued in St. Catharines where witnesses observed a suspect placing a hook on the covers with a chain attached to a pick up truck then remove them and placed them in his vehicle.
Charged with seven counts of Theft Under $5000.00, One count of Mischief - Endangering Life, and several other related offenses is Ritchie Witkowski of no fixed address. He is currently being held in custody pending a Bail Hearing.
