Man Jumps From Car In Vineland
Posted by DennisFrom the St.Catharines Standard:
A 35-year-old Niagara man died after jumping out the passenger side of a car while it was travelling along the westbound QEW Thursday night.
Ontario Provincial Police say the man was struck by at least one car and possibly more during the 7:45 p.m. incident, just west of the Victoria Avenue exit.
OPP spokesman Const. Graham Williamson said the man, whose name will not be released by police, had a long history of mental illness.
He was travelling in the car with a female family member, who was driving.
“Obviously she’s suffering from the effects of the incident,” Williamson said of the relative.
“She’s quite upset.”
The incident closed the major highway between Victoria Avenue and Ontario Street in Beamsville for several hours.
The OPP’s Niagara detachment and technical traffic unit investigated the accident.
No information on the motorists who struck the disturbed man was released by police.
