The Bear’s Den Showroom at Seneca Niagara Casino is proud to present Comedian, Actor, Writer, and Director Bobcat Goldthwait Friday, July 16th!
On Friday, July 16th, The Bear’s Den Showroom welcomes Comedian, Actor, and Director Bobcat Goldthwait. Born in the outskirts of Hollywood (Syracuse, New York) in 1962, Bobcat Goldthwait wrote and directed his first film “Shakes The Clown” in 1991. A dark cult comedy, “Shakes” was heralded by the Boston Globe as the –“Citizen Cane of Alcoholic clown movies, and lays claim to such fans as Martin Scorsese and Michael Stipe” – in fact; the REM song “Binky the Doormat” was based on a line from “Shakes The Clown”. Goldthwait’s next movie “Windy City Heat” appeared in the Cine Vegas Film Festival in 04 and won best film at the Montreal Comedy Festival that year. Matt Stone (co-creator of South Park) has called “Windy City Heat” –“beyond genius” and Vice Magazine called it, -“quite simply the greatest movie of all time”. “Sleeping Dogs Lie” marked Bobcat’s third feature film as a director. Written by Goldthwait, and financed by friends and pawn shops, the movie was shot entirely during a two week hiatus from his job directing “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (2004-2006). It was chosen to compete in Sundance’s 2006 Dramatic competition, and was also in the London, Toronto, and San Sebastian Film Festivals that year. “Sleeping Dogs Lie” is Goldthwait’s best reviewed work to date, and was hailed as “earnest and improbably moving” by Esquire Magazine, and “demonically funny and surprisingly sweet” by Rolling Stone. Bobcat credits his failure to appear in the film as a good part of its success.
Life does not cease to be funny when people die, any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.
The Doctor’s Dilemma, the first of two productions by the Shaw Festival’s namesake, begins previews June 10th at the Festival Theatre. Morris Panych directs this comic piece that poses some very relevant questions: when medical resources are limited, should a doctor decide who receives treatment and should those who can afford treatment be the first in line to receive it?
With his usual distinctive wit, Shaw tests the humanity of a doctor and presents a moral dilemma. Sir Colenso Ridgeon (Patrick Galligan) has discovered a lifesaving cure, but faces an ethical quandary. With only enough of his new cure for tuberculosis left for one patient, who should he save? Dr. Blenkinsop (Ric Reid), a kindly colleague who serves the poor, or the extremely talented but unscrupulous young artist Louis Dubedat (Jonathan Gould), who also happens to have a beautiful young wife (Krista Colosimo)? more…

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Hampton Hotels. All opinions are 100% mine.
We will be announcing our Stupid Tourist Story Contest winners soon. There is some internal disagreements of which story is the best. If you did not get a chance to enter, don’t worry. Hampton Hotels has just announced the Hampton Chain of Friends Sweepstakes.
Imagine this… Win one weekend for you and 100 of your friend at a Hampton Hotel. That’s practically the entire hotel for you! The sweepstake is open to residents of the 50 US, DC, Canada (excluding Quebec), UK and Mexico. You don’t have to be Hilton Honors members or have previously stayed at a Hampton. Plus, there is no purchase necessary. Not enough? Well, Hampton Hotels will throw in $5,000 to cover the taxes for the weekend.
My hotel of choice would be the Niagara Falls Hampton Inn. We’d spend the day at the Niagara Falls Waterpark, and all of the Falls Avenue attractions such as Adventure City, the Hershey Chocolate shop, and Clifton Hill. At night we’d watch the Niagara Falls fireworks and spend the rest of the night at the Casino, which is conveniently located directly across the street from the hotel. If I win I’d definitely invite all my friends and a few readers who comment on this post (hint, hint). But if you win, please put me on your guest list?
Contest Ends: 9/4/2010

Niagara Regional Police believe that on June 1st early morning, at least two intruders broke into Happy Rolph’s petting zoo on Read Rd. and attacked many of the caged animals in the zoo. Four small animals were killed and several others were shot and injured with BBs and pellets fired from air guns. There are reports that at least one large rabbit was decapitated and its head was mounted on a stake. Police believe the culprits also stole a baby goat that’s missing from an enclosure. Numerous beer bottles were left at the scene as though they had been used for target practice.
