Laura Secord in Real Time

A host of festivities are planned for Saturday to celebrate the 196th anniversary of Laura Secord’s 32-kilometre trek from Queenston to DeCew House to warn British forces of an impending American attack.

Her contribution helped in the British defeat of the Americans in the Battle of Beaverdams on June 24, 1813.

In commemoration of this anniversary, the Niagara Parks Commission’s Laura Secord Homestead will offer an opportunity to experience firsthand the events that led Secord to leave her family and home to enter a dangerous no man’s land to warn the defenders of Canada.

Source: Niagara Falls Review

Volunteers will try to set a Guinness World Record on Saturday by washing cars at Royal CarStar on Pin Oak Drive.

The local CarStar collision centre is joining forces with 140 other locations across North America for the CarStars Soap It Up National Car Wash.

CarStar hopes to wash more than 4,000 cars in eight hours at multiple venues to set the record.

Funds raised from the car wash will benefit the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The local wash will also raise funds for the graduating class of Loretto Catholic Elementary School.

The cash wash will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
