From the Buffalo News:
“One of the two surviving members of the world’s most famous rock band today offered a medley of some of the songs his All-Starr Band will perform Thursday when it begins its 2008 concert tour at the Fallsview Casino Resort.
Ringo Starr began with a reflective piece from his newest album, “Liverpool 8,” and how destiny pulled him from his hometown roots. He then jumped into a snippet from one of his most recognizable Beatles songs, “With a Little Help From My Friends.”
Ringo and the other six members of the touring band, all rock ‘n’ roll luminaries in their own right, have rehearsed since June 7 in the Avalon Ballroom at the Fallsview Casino. They have a two-night run there for their tour kickoff.”

In June 1969, the United States Army Corps of Engineers shut off the American and Bridal Veil Falls as an attempt to make the American side as attractive as the Canadian. The plan was to remove the talus from the base of the falls so the water could fall a greater distance.
During the project, water was sprinkled on the bed of the American Rapids to keep the hot sunlight from expanding the numerous cracks in the rock. Many people were upset to see the falls in such an unnatural state.
By November, the decision had been made to keep the talus, as it would be too costly to remove it, and would give the falls an artificial look. Here is an 8mm home movie filmed while the American Falls was shut off.

Yesterday, Police received a report from a former National Hockey League player that his vehicle, that was parked downtown, had been broken into sometime during the overnight hours.
Reported stolen are a 1972 Canada Cup ring, a Stanley Cup ring bearing the inscribed years 71, 73, 76, 77 and a Hockey Hall of Fame “Guess” watch. The exact value of the items taken are not known, however they do hold a significant sentimental value to its owner.
Police have not said who the owner is, but we can tell by the dates that he was probably a Montreal Canadien. If you have any information that can help investigators, please call 905-688-4111 X 4272.
