Man Jumps From Car In Vineland

A 35-year-old Niagara man died after jumping out the passenger side of a car while it was travelling along the westbound QEW Thursday night.
Ontario Provincial Police say the man was struck by at least one car and possibly more during the 7:45 p.m. incident, just west of the Victoria Avenue exit.

Welland Man Dies After Attempting To Retrieve His Stolen Wallet
Posted by DennisYesterday, a Welland man reported to police that his wallet and other personal items were stolen and that he had located some of his belongings in a near-by storm sewer.
After learning that the retrieval of the items was not immediately possible, the officer on the scene left the area to continue the investigation and advised the man of the dangers associated with retrieving the items from the sewer.
The officer returned to the area to find the sewer cover was off. The man was wedged securely inside, head first but still conscious. He was rescued and transported to the Welland County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death is not known, and an autopsy is scheduled. Foul play is not suspected.
The man has been identified as Lionel Desjardins, 57, of Welland.

Blaze Guts Thorold Music
Posted by DennisAccording to the store’s website, “Thorold Music has just undergone an extensive makeover”. Apparently that hard work is now gone after yesterday’s fire that has been ballparked around a million dollars damage. Co-owner Leo Moretti rushed to the store, located at 289 Glendale Ave., after receiving a call from his alarm company at around 8:30 a.m.
The St. Catharines Standard reported:
“Sounds like it might have started with a humidifier where the acoustic guitars are,” he said. The humidifier runs in the winter to maintain the guitars’ condition.
“We’ve never had a fire at the store before,” said Moretti, adding Thorold Music was insured and there was at least several hundred thousand dollars worth of inventory inside. Employees at the shop are also extremely fire-safety conscious, he said.
