Fort Erie Machinery Accident Update

Here is an update to the Two Men Fall Into Stone Crusher story we brought you on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Roger HILL, 45 years of age from Fort Erie, Ontario, and a 17 year employee of the Hard Rock Group, who was the contractor at the quarry since November 2007. The Ministry of Labour Mining Division was notified and are continuing to investigate.

Detective Sergeant Marco Giannico said, “Our support and sympathy goes out to the family, friends and co-workers of Roger at this tragic time”

The Niagara Regional Police will be supporting the Ministry of Labour during this investigation.

Sexual Assault Unit Seeks Public Assistance

NRPS Media Release

Members of the Niagara Regional Police Service, Sexual Assault Unit are presently investigating a reported ‘Break enter and commit’ sexual assault that took place this past Saturday, January 19th, 2008, at the City of St. Catharines.

Investigation has revealed that two females attended a high-end dance / nightclub in the City of Niagara Falls in the late hours of Friday, January 18th. During the course of the evening one of the females became intoxicated in a manner that has lead police to believe that her rapid loss of bodily control was drug facilitated.

Two Men Fall Into Stone Crusher In Fort Erie

Today around 5 pm, the Police were called to a rock quarry on Ridgemount Road in the Town of Fort Erie in response to an industrial accident that had just occurred.

Two men fell into stone crushing machinery. One man was killed while the other is in hospital.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Investigation into this matter continues by members of the Criminal Investigations Branch and the Ministry of Labour.

When retro store Penelope’s Planet was robbed by someone who tossed a brick through the glass front door last October, it was more than owner Kerry Parsons who suffered.

The thief or thieves ended up taking $1,000 worth of original clothing created by local artists and bands. The clothing was being sold on consignment, meaning it was the individual artists who lost out, not Parsons.

Big Grass Fire In Welland

I was stumbling around the web today and I found this video of a huge grass fire in Welland. There is no sound but lots of flame.

Charges Laid In North-End Break And Enter

On January 4th, 2008 Niagara Regional Police responded to a break and enter to a north St.Catharines residence, where it revealed that the occupants of the residence where away on
vacation. The suspects broke into the residence and caused extensive damage throughout the
house, estimated at $2,000.

Detectives from the St.Catharines Street Crime Unit continued the investigation where five youths were identified as the culprits.

Charged with one count each of Break, Enter, and Commit Mischief Under $5,000 are two females and three males, all from St.Catharines. All of the accused are young offenders and cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. All will appear in a St.Catharines court at a later date to answer to the charges.

Police Searching For Suspect In Niagara

Niagara Regional Police Detectives are searching for a Toronto area man in connection with several break and enters in the Niagara Region.

Members of the Niagara Regional Police are searching for 45-year-old Russell White of Toronto in relation to ten (10) break and enters to residences in Grimsby, West Lincoln, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls. The break-ins occurred in late 2007, and in each of the incidents residences of senior citizens were targeted. The residences range from single-family dwellings to retirement facilities, and in each of the incidents the suspect entered via unlocked doors, often while the occupant was home.

The search in Niagara follows the issuance of arrest warrants in the Waterloo area that were issued on January 14th, 2007 for similar offences.

The Niagara Regional Police has joined a large multi-jurisdictional police investigation into the activities of Russell White. The other agencies involved in the investigation include the Ontario Provincial Police, Brantford Police, Coburg Police, Durham Police, Guelph Police, Halton Police Hamilton Police, London Police, Oxford County Police, Toronto Police, and the Waterloo Police.

Detective Dan Nadeau says, “We believe that Russell White is responsible for a very large number of break and enters. The police investigation into Mr. White is ongoing and growing. We believe that Mr. White is still extremely active in committing break and enters and his early arrest is very important to us. We are asking that anyone who has any information regarding his whereabouts immediately contact their local police or Crimestoppers.”

Russell White (also known as John Taylor), born November 11th, 1962 is described as being 5’8”, 150 lbs, slim build, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has bushy eyebrows and walks in a bull-legged fashion. He is known to frequent retirement facilities and often portrays himself as a maintenance person or a visiting family member.

Investigators are asking that anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of Russell White immediately contact the Niagara Regional Police at 905-688-4111, their local police service, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

McDonalds Run Turned To Adventure

These girls attempt to make a run to McDonalds in Niagara On The Lake, but somehow get turned around and end up in St.Catharines. They get back 3 hours later and I think it’s time they buy a map.

Missing St. Catharines Teen

The Niagara Regional Police Service are seeking the assistance of the public in locating a missing 14-year old male, Louis Toner. Toner was last seen at approximately 4:00pm on January 14th, 2008, at the downtown St. Catharine’s bus terminal.

Toner is described as male white, 14 years, 6’ 1” / 185 cm, 130lbs / 60 kg, skinny build, with brown eyes and short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a 3⁄4 length black jacket with a fur lined hood, blue jeans, black winter boots, blue hooded sweatshirt, with “Brock University” in red letters across the front, and carrying a backpack.

Toner is believed to be in the St Catherine’s area. Foul play is not suspected at this time.

Anyone with information in regards to Toner’s current whereabouts are asked to contact the Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111 ext 4233 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
